The lighthouse of Noordwijk aan Zee is located at Koningin Wilhelminaboulevard 34 at Vuurtorenplein in the Dutch town of Noordwijk aan Zee. The lighthouse has six floors and a staircase with 108 steps. The tower has a light height of more than 33 meters and is made of brick and reinforced concrete.
Until the beginning of the 19th century, fishing in Noordwijk aan Zee remained the most important form of income.
Later, the population began to focus more and more on tourism. More than 1 million overnight stays take place each year. Noordwijk aan Zee consists of several districts and is located on the dunes. There are various catering establishments such as hotels, entertainment centers and restaurants (also on the beach) and there is a shopping center that has a Sunday opening. Every year events take place on the boulevard around the lighthouse on the Vuurtorenplein. The municipality has a KNRM rescue station and a reformed church (1647) with pulpit from the 17th century.
In Noordwijk aan Zee the first real inhabitants appeared around 1200, probably fishermen. In 847 the place was visited by a Scottish Benedictine named Jeroen van Noordwijk. He built a chapel and did missionary work. In 856 the Vikings landed  on the beach of Noordwijk. They captured a large part of the population; people were also forced to worship the old gods again. Jeroen refused to sacrifice to those gods, after which he was beheaded. When the Vikings left, he was buried in the dunes near Noordwijk He was captured by the Normans and tortured. On August 17, 856, he was beheaded. Around 980, a Romanesque chapel was built in his honour, which soon became a place of pilgrimage. In 1303 this chapel was replaced by a large stone church. This was the forerunner of the current Sint-Jeroenskerk
The kilometre-long coast is flanked by two Boulevards, the Koningin Wilhelmina boulevard and the Koningin Astrid Boulevard
The flag of Noordwijk was adopted by council decision on 29 September 2020 as the municipal flag of the Municipality of Noordwijk in South Holland. The flag consists of a white background with a black climbing lion with red tongue and nails. The lion is placed on the separation of trousering and flight. The flag shows the same image as the municipal coat of arms.
The text on the shield reads: QUEEN WILHELMINA - As she inspected the troops stationed in Noordwijk on 4 April 1940. Unveiled on May 7, 2000 by 'The Soldier of Orange' Mr Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema. Offered on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Hotels van Oranje. For the manufacture of this statue, the sculptor used a photograph taken of that inspection on 4 April 1940, near the spot where the statue now stands.
